Le due sorelle (lit. The two sisters)
The Two Sisters!
In Vietri, little location of Amalfitan Coast we have the two brothers!
Maybe stories of theire names are similar.
There are a lots of legend about the name "the two brothers" and the bests are in naples dialect... i'll try to write here some one.
Edit: The legends of Two Brothers!
Legend #1) Once upon a time, two sheperds brought their herd on the rocks near the sea for pasturing. They were looking far, admiring the wonderfoul sea on decline, when one of them, accidentally, fell down through the rocks of the coast. The other shepherd, leaving the herd alone, jumped down for saving his friend, but nowone of them was able to swim and they died.
The people of Vietri, knowing this fact, called Two Brothers the two boulders of their coast, to remember the brotherly act of the sheperd and his tragic story.
This legend is the most know on the Amalfitan coast.
Legend #2) Once upon a time, at the age of longobard king Desiderio (Desiderius in latin), the saracens pirates raids were well-knew by the people of Mediterranean coasts. King Desiderio had two male sons, twins, but during one of the most tragical raids on the Amalfitan coast, Saracens kidnapped one of them, leaving the king and his court suffering and very screamed.
Fortunally, after this fact, Saracens quitted the Amalfitan coast for many years, but only for allowing people to rebuilt their city and rise their economy.
During this period, pirates grew up the son of Desiderio like a pirate so and became, thanks to his blood, the best warrior of the sea.
Also his brother, grew up following his father's tracks, became very strong and brave.
When Saracens returned for raiding the Amalfitan coast, Desiderio has got an idea: the battle must being fought by two champions. It was an azzard, but Desiderio believed his son were the best warrior.
Pirats accepted and choosed, unconscious, his brother to send against him.
The warriors met in Vietri, on the bay, and without mercy or esitations fought.
The challenge were protracted from morning to twilight, and they just fought, but nowone won. Was night, when warriors, with the last hit, killed their enemy... in the same time.
The two men, then, throwing away their helmets for breathe better, sawing they was similar.
The same face, same eyes, same hairs. Finally talking, and not fighting, they understood were brothers. The two brothers. But was too late.
Desiderio and the pirates commander discovered thier champions on the Vietri's bay, face down, in a mist of blood and sea water, with their hands grasped.
Without a word, pirates gone and Desiderio brought through his people the news: The two brothers fought and died for savin' the reign and the coast, but heroes wouldn't be forgotted. They were vigilating their people from the sky...
From the water rised two high rocks, the immortal monuments of brutality and blood, of onor and brotherly....and from the sea.
This legend is less know and less diffused by the Amalfitan people, but i could get that in the parthenopeas opera "Li cunti de li cunti" ("The tales of tales" form the Naples dialect and "I racconti dei racconti" in Italian).
Sorry for mistakes, enjoy!
